Master the art of timing
DEQX processors and preamp processors are thoroughly-engineered DSP platforms packed with innovative, patented calibration technology for the most inaccurate component in your system, your speakers and their integration with room acoustics.
Not surprisingly, speakers introduce more errors and distortions than every other audio component in your system combined due to their uncompensated mechanics and their simplistic internal crossover filters. In fact speakers introduce 10 to 100 times more frequency-response, time and phase errors than the signal driving them, decimating the realization of ‘HD-Audio’.
DEQX processors remove many of these speaker distortions with room compensation an added extra. Uniquely DEQX fixes critical timing/phase errors (group-delay), where many frequency groups are delayed to varying degrees compared to others. By measuring these group-delay errors and then delaying the ‘on-time’ frequencies so the ‘late’ frequencies can catch up, DEQX restores their original ‘live’ timing. At the same time it calibrates the speaker’s frequency-response to a degree its manufacturer could never do, having no way to compensate the signal driving it.
DEQX ‘Room calibration’ measures the resonances and other effects of your room’s acoustic. Calibration focuses on correcting lower frequency abnormalities cased by the room’s dimensions and speaker placement. In some configurations timing and phase calibration can also be addressed.
The results are startling; two-channel and surround systems open up in a dramatic way when timing, phase and amplitude accuracy are restored to your speakers with judicious room compensation an added plus.
DEQX PreMate
As a full-function preamp processor the PreMate follows the Hippocratic Oath: “First do no harm”. With processing distortion 140dB below listing level the notion of digital or analog sound doesn’t exist in the DEQX Universe; we let the music or soundtrack speak for itself.
The PreMate delivers the same comprehensive speaker and room calibration features and audio quality as DEQX’s flagship HDP4 and HDP5. While the HDP4 and HDP5’s active crossover features can be used with either active or passive speakers the PreMate works with passive speakers using their built-in crossovers. PreMate provides 2-way crossover outputs that make it easy to add and time-align subwoofers or bi-amp bi-wirable speakers.
HDP4’s preamp section includes seven inputs. Its new industry acclaimed USB input is now standard and incorporates a dedicated 500mHz DSP with a proprietary asynchronous re-clocked and re-buffered digital input stage. This provides state-of-the-art playback from PC or Mac music servers.
Other digital inputs are Toslink Optical, RCA Coax, BNC Coax and balanced AES3 XLR. Two analog inputs are RCA and balanced XLR for analogue sources such as vinyl, surround receivers or analogue sources. Outputs are RCA unbalanced and XLR balanced for main speakers, subwoofers and bi-amped speakers. The main speaker output is also available in S/PDIF digital.
Stereo or surround:
For surround systems a single stereo PreMate can make a dramatic improvement to soundtrack music that’s mainly mixed to main front left and right speakers. The unit will also properly integrate one or two subwoofers. For ultimate surround systems PreMate acts as ‘master’ to one or more ‘slave’ 2-channel units for center and surround channels. For example, one PreMate for main left/right front plus three Express-II units provide an extraordinary 7.1 or 7.2 surround sound experience.
Liquid analogue:
PreMate incorporates Cirrus Logic’s reference Professional grade ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) to provide the most transparent analog input you’re likely to hear. Two latest-generation 32-bit Burr Brown DACs (Digital-to-Analog Converters) combined with its transparent calibration engine provide analog fluidity that’s turned digital skeptics into true believers.
No compromise:
PreMate takes many features from our flagship HDP-4 and HDP-5 Preamp Processors including the same audiophile-grade parts and new technology. The remote provides volume and 3-band ‘forensic tone control’ with 99 memory positions for special recordings, personal preferences or just immediate bass and treble control on the hop. The remote also selects from four ‘profiles’, each of which can contain different speaker and room calibration profiles including ‘bypass’ to remind you of what you were hearing before.
Calibrate speakers first then the room
Our comprehensive DEQX Cal™ software generates correction filters for phase, timing coherence and frequency-response. Only then does DEQX Cal measure from the listening area for room calibration.
Your dealer or our DEQXpert™ on-line installation service drives the set-up software for you. All you have to do is connect up the unit much like any preamp-DAC, then set up the calibrated microphone to measure the speakers then your room as we suggest during our live DEQXpert hook-up. The processor computes the precise calibration for your particular system and room; there’s never been a preamp like this!
If you don’t have a local dealer to install the PreMate a DEQXpert agent can run the comprehensive DEQX Cal™ software for you for a surprisingly affordable price on a secure, remote connection. You’ll need a simple USB link to your PC (Windows compatible computer or Mac running Windows) using a measurement microphone and a broadband connection. Or, if you prefer to calibrate it yourself, we can lend a hand via email or phone with tips and directions on getting the best from your setup.
